Royal County Down – Championship Links
First Established: 1889
Designed By: George L. Baillie; added to by ‘Old’ Tom Morris
Although the original 18-hole layout was initially designed by Mr. Baillie and Mr. Morris, during its distinguished history Royal County Down has been fine-tuned by such further illustrious and legendary names as Harry Vardon, Ben Sayers and Harry Colt. However, the greatest influence in its lasting and far-reaching appeal is surely nature itself, with the stunning natural dune-land undulating at the foot of the beautifully magnificent Mourne Mountains, with Slieve Donard, the highest mountain in Northern Ireland, constantly in view alongside the Irish Sea.
The Championship Links at Royal County Down is regularly voted and ranked as one of the absolute top golf courses found anywhere on earth, and who can argue with such consistent and widely celebrated praise?
