Day 2 – Arrival in London & Transfer to Oxford

• Arrive in London Heathrow Airport and meet tour director

• Visit the Bodleian Library, one of the oldest libraries in Europe and a cornerstone of Oxford scholarship

• Take a walking tour of Broad Street and High Street, passing historic colleges and landmarks

• Lunch at a local Oxford café or pub

• Visit the Examination School, graveyard, and the University Church of St Mary the Virgin – central to Oxford’s religious and intellectual heritage

• Check into Oxford hotel for the next several nights

Day 3 – Oxford: Academic Life & Lewis’s World

• Morning lectures from Oxford professors, offering insight into the intellectual climate that shaped Lewis

• Walking tour through Carfax and Christ Church Meadows, where the inspiration for Alice in Wonderlandoriginated

• Visit Christ Church Cathedral, a blend of spiritual majesty and academic tradition

• Lunch at the historic Turf Tavern, a favorite of Oxford scholars

• Guided afternoon tour of Oxford’s renowned colleges, exploring their architecture and heritage

• Evening group dinner at the Trout Inn, a riverside location often frequented by Lewis and Tolkien

Day 4 – The Kilns, Colleges & Literary Oxford

• Breakfast at the hotel

• Guided visit to The Kilns, C.S. Lewis’s former home, lovingly preserved with his personal study and garden

• Visit Holy Trinity Church, where Lewis worshipped and is buried beside his brother Warren

• Lunch at the Mitre, one of Oxford’s oldest inns

• Afternoon visits include:

  • Magdalen College, where Lewis taught for nearly three decades

• See the Book of Kells at Trinity College, a masterpiece of early Christian artistry and illuminated scripture

Day 6 – Dublin to Rostrevor via Ancient Ireland

• Morning visit to St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Ireland’s largest church and a center of Christian history

• Travel north through County Meath, visiting ancient Celtic and monastic sites:

  • Monasterboice High Crosses, remarkable examples of early Christian stonework

• Explore Silent Valley, a tranquil reservoir nestled in the Mourne Mountains

Day 8 – Belfast: The Early Life of C.S. Lewis

• Travel to Belfast, birthplace of C.S. Lewis

• Visit key sites connected to his childhood and faith formation:

  • Ardglass and Killyleagh Castle, landmarks near his family’s holiday retreats

  • St. Mark’s Church, where Lewis was baptized and worshipped with his family

  • Campbell College, Lewis’s former school and a major influence on his early education

• Learn about Lewis’s family, upbringing, and the Belfast that shaped his imagination

• Overnight in Belfast

Day 9 – The Antrim Coast & Northern Inspirations

• Journey along the spectacular Antrim Coast, one of the world’s most scenic drives

• Visit Ballycastle, Castlerock, and the dramatic ruins of Dunluce Castle

  • Sites believed to have inspired Cair Paravel and The Last Battle

• Reflect on Lewis’s childhood holidays and the landscapes that fueled his love of myth and story

We will arrange arrival and departure transfers for group flights. If you will be arriving or departing at a different time, we can assist you with transfers, but those are not included in the tour price.

Cancellations

Regardless of reason, cancellations are costly, so we highly recommend purchasing travel insurance:

INDIVIDUAL CANCELLATIONS: All cancellations must be in writing.

• From the time of deposit until 100 days before departure, a $150 per person penalty.

• From 99-30 days before departure $350 per person penalty plus any non-refundable deposits to airlines or ground suppliers.

• An individual cancelling less than 30 days before departure will receive NO REFUND.

• Cancellations must be received in writing by 5:00 p.m. central time on the last business day of the applicable time period.

• For flight changes or cancellations, revision fees and/or airline cancellation charges will apply.

• Roommates cancelling can result in a single supplement charge for the roommate. The Participant who cancels will be responsible for that charge if a substitute roommate cannot be found.

• Trip Cancellation and Interruption Insurance is strongly recommended.

• EdenGate Travel cannot assume responsibility for any additional costs or fees relating to the issuance and/or cancellation of air tickets or other arrangements not made through EdenGate.
